"I have spasmodic dysphonia, which makes it difficult to talk & be heard. So sign language is great for me. It is difficult when your just starting out, but with the Lisa Mills course it is so easy. She takes you through a lot of things & breaks them down so they are easy to understand. I actually taught myself the alphabet & a few things off YouTube. Now I'm enrolled in this course, no more learning of there, a lot of them are too quick & they don't break it down for you to actually follow. Because I had done some searches previously on the internet for Auslan things, Facebook popped up one day with an ad for a course Lisa was actually doing in my town. So I jumped on that quick & then I found out she did online courses I could do at my own pace. It takes me a few viewings to pick the signs up & retain them, but that is the great thing. You have a lifetime to work & go back & watch as many times as you like. For anyone at all interested in learning Auslan, which I think everyone should, the Lisa Mills online course is 100% the right thing to get. Thank you so much, Lisa!

Meet Lisa

My name is Lisa Mills and I am your online coach. I am trilingual in spoken English, Australian Sign Language and British Sign Language. I have a diploma in Auslan. I'm also a qualified & registered school teacher, a deaf actress, and deaf since birth. Now I teach sign language to thousands of students around the world through my book, DVD, online courses, and membership.

Lots of deaf people experience poor mental health and frustration due to communication and isolation barriers. We're often excluded or highly challenged to access conversations on a day to day basis! It takes its toll on us.

But small things like making eye contact with us when we talk, or including simple signs to be deaf-friendly, or signing key words and fingerspelling during chats ... make a huge difference.

You can make a huge difference!

My course addresses this and more, and together, we can create a more inclusive and embracing community.

"Ive been a bit embarrassed to tell my baker I've been learning to sign until I got more confident, but it just happened today. I asked her to do something for me using a few words and fingerspelling the ones I didn't know.

With the biggest smile she mouthed, "Are you signing?"

I signed, "Yes, learning Auslan."

She signed thank you and walked away with a huge smile. She was in the best mood for the rest of her shift.

Felt good to include her in communicating!

"Growing up, Ive always been around people with different types of abilities - Just like you have Im sure.

My mother took in some children over the years and my brother being one of them. He is aspergers - although never correctly diagnosed, he was in the support classes at school and during his youngest years he was in the special preschool/school. As a way of quiet communication mum had taught us all a little ASL, Over the years we all lost the skill of sign communication, but I kept enough to get by, Ive always wanted to refresh and learn new skills.

Today, I was so excited to see one of my old regular customers come in, we have always communicated by written word, until today when I spelt out his name to greet him, He was just as excited as I was, he then decided he will spell out his food order. He usually orders the same thing each time,So I thought, "easy, I know what he wants". Well, He tricked me and changed it! I had to really concentrate on what he wanted, especially since he didn't spell the burger right, but we got there and I figured it out quite easily!

Anyway, just thought Id put it up here and share with you all, It was so exciting, he didn't ask for a pen or paper and all my staff members were amazed that I could communicate easily with them.

Thanks for having this course, it has inspired me to keep going with it!
