"Thank you so.much for this easy to use and learn Auslan level one. I have really enjoyed it and feel very proud of how much I've learned. I feel like I could make my way through a basic conversation and aid it with the use of finger spelling at the moment. The insight into Auslan grammar was very interesting too. Thanks Lisa and everyone involved to make this work. "

"I'm loving learning Auslan. Have always wanted to. Have mastered the alphabet so am currently spelling out everything. Next is remembering the signs. I have found it interesting as I have a form of dyslexia and have a image in my mind for nearly every word so I'm excited to interchange my image for the sign. ( I'm in Adelaide). My nephew (6) and I are spelling to each other - his primary school has deaf and hearing impaired students and everyone is taught to sign. Cheers!"
- Megan Haynes, Student - TAFESA
"I'm a relief teacher from Nth Qld. I've wanted to learn sign language for a long time as some of my relief teaching days are at a special needs school where there are children who only respond to sign language. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing stories and experiences with everybody."
- Josephine Grasso, Primary School Relief Teacher
My name is Lisa Mills and I am your online coach. I am trilingual in spoken English, Australian Sign Language and British Sign Language. I have a diploma in Auslan. I'm also a qualified & registered school teacher, a deaf actress, and deaf since birth. Now I teach sign language to thousands of students around the world through my book, DVD, online courses, and membership.
Lots of deaf people experience poor mental health and frustration due to communication and isolation barriers. We're often excluded or highly challenged to access conversations on a day to day basis! It takes its toll on us.
But small things like making eye contact with us when we talk, or including simple signs to be deaf-friendly, or signing key words and fingerspelling during chats ... make a huge difference.
You can make a huge difference!
My course addresses this and more, and together, we can create a more inclusive and embracing community.
"This course has helped me to gain the basic understanding of Auslan and I am very excited to use it in my class with all of my students! It has also pushed my passion for sign language even further! Thank you so much!!"
- Janae Carige
"I want to learn auslan for three reasons: 1. I've always wanted to know another language but due to my own disabilities spoken language is very hard thus adding another one would be difficult at this time 2. I volunteer at the royal children's hospital and would love to be able to be a social support to those who speak auslan as well 3. I feel like it's a very inclusive language and I'd like to be able to talk to all people"
- Christine Beling, Social Support Volunteer

"I am a paramedic in Far North Queensland and learning Auslan has been on my bucket list for a long time. I learnt to finger spell as a child (I actually cannot remember how) and it has stayed with me, and this course will give me a significantly wider knowledge base. I am hoping that by learning to sign I will have a means of communicating with Deaf or Hearing Impaired patients that I may encounter at work, hopefully improving their experience with the health care system. I am also teaching First Aid courses for my organisation and would love the opportunity to be able to include Deaf or Hearing Impaired participants without the need for a translator. And I'm super lucky to have one of my friends/colleagues starting this course with me so we can practice together!"
- Rachele Armstrong, Advanced Care Paramedic
